Neon in New York 17.07.13

An OOTD of my first day in New York and some essentials for the city.

Bandana - Madewell - great for getting hair off your face when it's hot in the city and still really cute.

Dress - H&M - When it's 38 degrees you want something light and this dress is perfect.

Bag - TK maxx but the brand is Sparrow True - Ok for New York you want a fairly small bag that is easy to carry. My Longchamp is far too big and hurts your shoulder after a while. This bag is easy on your shoulders, a good size and it's on your body so it isn't likely to get stolen.

Shoes - Next - Probably the most important to get right in New York because your going to have to do a lot of walking. Flip flops are a bad idea, I learnt that the hard way my last trip here a few years ago. They give you blisters and are not practical. These shoes are similar to toms and they are comfortable and light too - the perfect option.

Nails - Barry M blueberry.

Lexi Likes -- DIY jewellery holder

Hello Lexingtons! I'm waiting for my New York flight and thought I would write a cheeky post. I'm redoing my room and need a place to put my jewellery. At first I put all my necklaces in a pretty glass bowl but within a week, they we all tangled together and were just a plain hot mess! I found nothing online I liked (even on Pinterest) but then I came up with this fab idea on how to make one yourself very easily and cheaply too!

The first thing you will need is a mug tree. Don't get a brand new one but buy one from a charity or thrift shop. I picked mine up for a few pounds in Cancer research.

Now, in my opinion, this is way too plain. The next stage is to jazz it up! Take some nail polish remover and make sure it contains acetone. With a cotton pad soaked in the remover, rub the stand all over. This gets rid of the varnish wooden furniture often has so we can paint it. Next, choose your paint colour and make sure it's for painting wood. I chose this pretty blue colour.

Stir your paint and get a small paint brush. Paint the stand with a light layer first, and then once it's dry go in with a second or third coat if necessary.

Voila! Once it's dry, you have your own vibrant jewellery stand. If you try this out tweet me a picture to @lexi_likes

Bye!

Lexi's travels -- Tatler bystander ball, London

On Tuesday, I went to the Tatler bystander ball which was the first ever teen ball held by Tatler. It was in partnership with Johnnieb clothing and the theme was black tie on the beach. So here's what happened.

Me and my friend Ava arrived at the venue -- Supperclub, Acklam Road, London -- after the bystander ball twitter retweeted my tweet, which added to the excitement.  We were given our wristbands and dedicated number then allowed into the party. We then  were greeted by the sight of a topless waiter serving free mocktails. There were also photographers everywhere taking pictures and asking for your name so they can put you in the magazine.

The venue was really cool and this is the view from the balcony overlooking the dance floor/main area. As you can see they were sun beds bordering the walls on the balcony and lower floor too, covered in giant cushions and beach balls. This was a really good addition and me and my friends spent a while chilling on them.

This is the view from the dance floor overlooking the balcony where I took the last picture. There was a bar on both floors serving free drinks on the downstairs and paid on the upstairs. They also served food such as mini goats cheese pizzas and chicken sticks which were incredible. Every hour or so a circus act would perform in the middle of the dance floor and below is a picture I took of a very skilled man, climbing a rope with his bare strength.

Towards the back of the room near the entrance, was a small area dedicated to johnnieb. There was a styling contest and a modeling free casting too. I entered both and they were great fun.  I also met Jamie Lang and Phoebe from Made in Chelsea. I don't really watch the show but my other friends do and they were screaming and fangirling like you wouldn't believe.

They also gave out amazing goodie bags at the end and here is what was in them!

Overall I had a great night. I met some new people, danced with my friends and chilled on a giant sunbed. Success!

Lexi Likes -- Anime: my recent favourites

Not many people know that I really like manga and anime. If you aren't familiar with manga or anime, it's a Japanese comic almost but it's really cool. Here are some of my recent favourites which I wanted to tell you guys about.

1. Fairy Tail
This is probably my all time fave. It's amazing. A combination of a great story line and character driven too. It's about wizards but not the Hogwarts type, no, very different. My favourite character is Happy, a little magical talking blue cat who can fly. I have a happy plushie too :D the joys.

2. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
I finished watching this a few months ago and it is a lot darker than fairy tail but still has the core character relationships of it. Would definitely recommend if you like darker sci-fi types.

3. Summer Wars
Summer Wars is an anime movie I just watched and I really liked it. It wasn't too predictable. It had a similar story line to digimon but a more sophisticated approach.

Those are all I'm going to talk about today. I'm craving a cup of tea and a movie.
