1000 page views and new translate feature!

Hey Lexingtons!

Today I want to thank you because I just had a look at my blog stats and I saw that I hit 1000 page views. It really isn't about the numbers for me but it does make me happy to think that my little blog has been clicked on over a thousand times. I have recently gained quite a few new readers which I am thrilled about. I then realised that a lot of my views come from different countries (it blows my mind knowing someone from Russia or Poland or the Netherlands has seen my blog) so I added a new feature where you can translate my blog into different languages. I have currently put it right at the bottom of my feed but as soon as I'm home and have access to a proper computer, I'm hoping to move it into a more accessible spot. Let me know if you like this feature and thank you so much again. You are all wonderful!

Lexi likes - Epadrilles

Hello all! I'm currently in the South of France spending time with my friend Edie who is my lovely foot model in this post about a major French trend - Espadrilles. Everyone wears them and you can buy them anywhere. They are sold at surf shops, supermarkets and clothes shops. They are perfect for those late summer days and I definitely want to pick up a pair whilst I'm here. I thought Edie's spotty ones were SO wonderful and I had to share the trend with you all. They are really cheap too and last longer then flip flops.

If you are not a fan of the wicker soles, Next sell some amazing ones with thin rubber ones which I spent most of the summer in (if you've seen my outfit posts you'll know).

How to be CONFIDENT

Hi everyone

Today I want to talk about being confident. I am a very confident person but I haven't always been like this. I used to worry so much about my appearance and what people thought of me. I want to help any of you who are like that because you are all wonderful and original. So here are my steps to being confident.

1. Being happy with yourself.

The first stage of being confident is being happy with yourself. You have to embrace yourself and your body. You are never going to get different legs or different hair or a different face. These are the things that make you different and who wants to be like everyone else? Sure you can work out to improve fitness and possibly weight, but chances are you won't change that dramatically. Embrace your flaws and show off your good points. If you have a curvy body, don't try and be a twig, wear a Bodycon dress and show off that figure! If you have freckles, don't cover them up, smile and show them off! Or if you have a baby face, don't avoid pictures, make your hair messy and big and give your cheeks a light contour to embrace the innocence of your natural face shape! Once you are happy with yourself and know your perks and flaws, you can move on to the next stage of confidence.

2.Not caring what other people think.

I can't stress this point enough. The minute I stopped caring about anyone else I was SO much happier and more confident. Your life shouldn't be wasted living it to other people's choices or opinions. Your life is about you and not them. Their opinions are none of your business. I've been called fat, ugly and many more things this past year and yeah, I could be really upset about it, try to lose weight or be pretty but the thing is I am totally happy the way I am. I'm not fat. I'm not ugly. I'm confident and myself and that's enough. If people aren't going to appreciate that or can't understand it, that's their problem. Anyone who is immature enough to insult you like that is obviously insecure about themselves and to be honest I would feel sorry for them. If they were low enough to try and bring down your happiness, they are obviously not worth your time. So don't care what others think of you, because it shouldn't make a difference. This is your life, live it the way you want. If you are self happy and don't care about others, you are basically a fierce, confident machine. Hazah!

3. Working the confidence.

If you know me, I do like to occasionally brag about my confidence. Not in an arrogant way but more to stop any more people getting to me. I've been bullied before and it really sucks. I just know how to stand up for myself now and I'm too confident to let anything someone says or does get to me.  So my lovely Lexingtons, be confident, be you, be wonderfully outgoing and don't let any bad things get to you because it's just not worth your time.

I love you all. If you have any more questions or need advice ask me on my tumblr which is linked in a page below my banner.

Much love

Lexi's travels -- New York

At the beginning of Summer I was lucky enough to visit my favourite place - New York City. I've been there before so I won't talk to you guys about a lot of the common touristy things because I've done most of them. I went with my parents and we stayed in the Andaz hotel on 5th and 41st street. I have no negative things to say about the hotel. The room we stayed in was incredibly spacious for New York and the hotel was very modern. They had friendly staff and who were incredibly helpful when it came to booking restaurants, touristy things etc.

On our first day, we went to the Empire State building. On our previous trip we went to Top of the rock instead because it was supposed to be better but this time we tried the Empire State. Now it was good and we went fairly early so the queues weren't too bad. However, now I've had the chance to compare the two buildings and views, Top of the Rock is better. It has glass around the outside as opposed to wire so you can see out much better and it's better for pictures too. I still enjoyed it and here is my best shot from the Empire State building.

It was SO hot when we went (almost 40 degrees C) and since we were in the city it was also really humid. Therefore I got really dehydrated and felt like I was going to pass out when a spotted a glorious Jamba Juice which honestly saved me. It was my first and it was magical.

Later that day I went shopping on fifth avenue and went to Sephora, Madewell and many more exciting places. I also did an OOTD that afternoon which you can see here.

The following day, we visited the high line park. If you aren't familiar with it, it was an old railway in the meatpacking district used for transporting goods across the city but eventually they stopped using it. Two men turned it into an amazing park which looks over the city and it is beautiful. There were playgroups, yoga classes and cafes along the park. It was very peaceful and was like a small strip of green through the urban streets of NY. Here are my favourite pictures I took there and in some you can even see the old tracks. I also did an OOTD post at the park which you can find here.

Some amazing street art
The tracks
The spot where all the art students come and sketch the sky line and sit on the bleachers. I loved this girl's backpack and I really want one so I took a picture of it.
We also payed Time Square a visit.

Our hotel was right next to the library (which I think was actually the one from the movie The Day After Tomorrow) and Bryant Park.  Every month in Bryant park they have an outdoor movie screening and we didn't get to watch one but this is what the screen and park looked like. The photo isn't great because it was late at night and my camera wouldn't focus but here it is. We ate dinner there one night and the Park was hazy but had a very relaxed vibe.

We also went to Grand Central station which was beautiful. Especially the ceiling which had paintings of the constellations on it.

The flat iron building:

Near the flat iron building is Buffalo exchange which is the coolest thrift store which stocks designer and ordinary brands. I went and bought two dresses, a hat, a bag and a blazer for around $60. They have some amazing pieces and if you like fashion, go there for original things and great prices.

Finally, we ended our trip with a walk in Central Park.

It's a tradition of mine to buy a snow cone if I'm in Central Park because they are so hard to find in England.
Hope you enjoyed my post about my New York adventure!

DIY Backpack customization

Hey internet! Today I show you how to jazz up an old bag for school or general handbag purposes!

So I don't know about you guys but at my school there is a sort of subconscious pressure to buy a new school bag when it's a new year. I don't have the money nor the reason to buy a new bag. Mine has lasted me many adventures through different countries to different classes. It hasn't ripped or  broken and looks pretty new even though I've had it for about a year and it has carried the weight of an elephant in books. I love it but it's time for a revamp!

I started by choosing fabric. Even though my bag has a bold tribal pattern I decided to choose a clashing tartan print. Now this is a total love or hate thing so I understand if you don't like it. I pinned down my pieces of fabric and sewed on two thick stripes of the tartan print onto the top flap of my bag. I used a basic running stitch and some red thread. I didn't hem the fabric or anything but I'm hoping it won't fray.

I didn't make the stripes quite long enough so I added a little row of earthy toned beads to finish it off. You can jazz up your bag in so many different ways so I hope you got some inspiration from this.

The original bag is from Urban Outfitter by the way and I definitely recommend their bags. They are such great quality and I know they are slightly pricey but they are definitely worth it. They don't sell my exact one anymore but you can find a similar one here. Finally I have a couple of cute things which I'm going to carry in my school bag. I have a sweet little notebook with a print of these old library books which I bought in Sweden (I forgot to feature it in my haul). It kinda reminds me of an old attic library or something with lots of books about potions and magical things :). I have my little yellow coin and card purse which I'm going to use for change also bought in Sweden. Finally, I have my Macys pouch which will be my pencil case for the year - bought in NY.

If you try this DIY out or jazz up your bag, tag me in an instagram post @lexi_law or tweet me a picture to @lexi_likes. I would love to see!

Sweden haul

Bonjour Lexingtons!

Recently I was in Sweden for a few days and I did a small amount of shopping. I thought I would show you what I bought because Sweden has amazing design. I will be doing a Lexi's travel's about my trip but I'm a bit behind at the moment on my travel posts and I still need to do my New York one. Anyway here are all of the things I bought and apologies for bad lighting/picture quality because I took this picture about fifteen minutes ago and it's pretty late at night here.

1. Tartan/check shift dress
I have to admit this dress looks really ugly when it's not on and not styled correctly but I have big plans for this gem. I'm doing a punk fashion look book post for A/W 2013 soon and I am planning on wearing this with a leather jacket and some big black boots. Be prepared.

2. Geometric mesh and blue bodycon dress
I love the colour of this dress and the white mesh cut outs. Bodycon dresses are probably my favourite because I'm curvy and they are the most flattering. The sweet heart neckline is pretty too.

3. Electric candle tea lights
You can't really see these in the picture but I think they are so cool. I cannot manage a real candle for the life of me and I saw these in a really old MacBarbie07 video. I thought they were so cool because they look like tea light candles from a distance but they are actually electric lights which flicker to look like candles. I know this is a bit weird but I got so inspired when I saw them and I think they would look really pretty on a glass tray or something in my bedroom.

4. Turquoise high waisted denim shorts
These shorts are fairly tight on but they are so comfy and I love the colour. Simple, but I bought them for the equivalent of around £5 so bargain!

5. Yellow coin/card purse
I just fell in love with this little purse when I saw it and I thought it would be perfect for keeping change in. It is a beautiful yellow colour and it also has a little card slot in the front.

Those were all of my goodies from Sweden!

Lexi's travels -- Brighton

Hello all! Today I'm going to tell you all about my trip to Brighton a couple of weeks ago, celebrating my friend Ava's birthday. We took the train down and once we arrived we headed straight to the pier. Now if you've never been to Brighton pier, the system is you buy tokens to go on rides and each ride costs a certain amount of tokens. We were planning on buying lots as we were going to spend the whole day there but we found out for the same price as we were going to spend on tokens, we could buy unlimited wristbands! This was so good because it meant we didn't have to worry about wasting tokens on baby rides or keeping count of them!

The rides were really good. My favourites were the horror house, the mouse roller coaster and the one shown below.

I also loved the helter-skelter.

After going on every ride twice (including the toddler rides) we were so hungry. We found an Asian street food type of place on the pier. We had prawn crackers for 60p and some HUGE rice and noodle dishes for £2-3! They were delicious.

We decided we'd had enough of the pier and changed into our swimsuits to hit the beach. It was warm for England so we went swimming - yes we are all nuts. It was absolutely freezing but we had such a laugh and a little adventure swimming under the pier.

After our little beach adventure, we wanted to go to the famous lanes to shop. We passed the Royal pavilion on the way and the Brighton Dome.

There was also this really cool busker we saw who had an interesting method of playing the guitar. There are some great street artists of all kinds in Brighton which makes it have this cool, quirky vibe.

The lanes are these small little narrow streets filled with cool shops like vintage stores, record stores and lots more. I definitely want to go back to shop for an entire day.

I found this amazing comic book and manga store and it had such a great selection! Look at the manga!

Here is the bag with the address and name of the store in case you want to go.

Overall a great Summer day trip!

July Favourites

Hey all, these are all of my likes of July! Enjoy!

First, I want to talk about a mascara. This is Maxfactor's Clump Defy which is the same as the Covergirl Clump crusher if you are in the US or elsewhere. I really love this mascara and I never get any clumps in it. It's very buildable and you can start with a light natural effect or build it up to big bold lashes.

My skincare favourite will have to be Garnier's 2 in 1 Makeup remover. I think this is meant mainly for eyes but I use it on my face as well and it is amazing for clearing up my skin. I have a major issue with blackheads and this product leaves a lovely residue on your skin which feels moisturising and smooth but it also clears up my blackheads within minutes. I know this sounds hard to believe but it reduces them so much. However it doesn't last, if I take my makeup off at night I still will have blackheads when I wake up but it's perfect to use before a night out to clear your skin for the evening. Oh and it's also amazing at taking off makeup.

Moving on to fashion favourites, my hippy sunglasses from Topshop are my new Summer staple. They are so retro and cute and I have a baby face which means it's hard to find Sunglasses which suit me but I love these and I where them all the time; if you've seen my OOTD posts you will know.

Next, my other newfound Summer staple - bandannas! If you know me I am practically famous for my messy buns (I literally have my hair like that 70% of the time) and these are the perfect thing to spice them up a bit. I bought one in NY from Madewell (the top one) and I was hooked from then onward. I was also giving away some old toys and as a child I would wrap little scarves around teddies as dresses so when I was clearing some out, I found many bandannas in the process. These are my favourites.

This past month, me and my friends have been getting together and making custom T shirts using iron transfer paper and Tie dye. I ordered a whole bunch of plain white tees from Amazon really cheaply and then my friends and I printed out cute pictures or pictures of our favourite bands and put them on the T shirts. We also added cutouts, tie dye and fringe too! Below is one I made with a picture of a Unicorn crossing sign which I think is SO cool.

Next I have a pair of shoes which are my Tom dupes from the Next men's section (I got a small size) which I have worn everyday for the past month! They are so comfortable and they match with everything. Alongside these I have my beloved Wave board. I was given this three or four years ago and never used it but on the first day of Summer, I pulled it out and taught myself. My board is the Ripple which is a smaller version of the original Wave, designed for sharper turns and smaller movements which is perfect because I use it on my patio area in my garden which is fairly small and this maneuvers around flower pots and garden chairs very well. I ride this multiple times a day, whenever I'm bored or in the garden. It works by moving your hips and legs and is actually not a bad workout because it uses your stomach muscles too. My brother has the larger version and I like using that sometimes too but I found it easier to learn on the Ripple.

My two book favourites are Torn by Cat Clark and a journal-type book called Q&A a day. Firstly, Torn is amazing and probably the saddest book I've ever read. I actually started and finished it on my flight to New York, so in about 6 hours. Once you pick it up you HAVE to get to the end and find out more. I won't give anything away but I don't think the blurb is very good so I will do my own. It's about a group of teenage girls who go on a school trip together. It's based on stereotypical ideas to begin with, as you have the mean popular girl, the emo and the nice girl and the sporty girl. The girls want to play a prank on the mean girl to get back at her for all the things she's said and done but the prank goes too far and horribly wrong and something drastic happens. The girls then live with the guilt and each slowly go insane in a different way. As you can see it's quite a dark book but definitely a must read.
Q&A a day is just what is says. You answer a different question on each day for five years and you can see how your answers change overtime. For example, one question is 'Do you think people can change' on the 1st of July. Each year you answer that same question on the 1st of July and see if your answers change. It's a really quick thing to do and I keep it by my bed so I do it just before I go to sleep.

Finally I have my crafty project of the month. This my friends is a Kusudama: a Japanese medicine ball, except this one is made out of origami instead of herbs. It's from a kit you can buy here and it took me a few hours to make but it was really fun and there's something about late night origami that's really relaxing. It's hanging in my room and I'm very proud of it. If you guys try it, tweet me a picture to @lexi_likes or tag me in an instagram @lexi_law .
