Trying new things 28.09.13

Saturday was the day of trying something new and for this I wanted to wear my backless leotard and my new tartan skirt. A while ago I was in search for the perfect leotard and couldn't find any ones which I liked. In the end I actually gave up and went to a dance website instead. This was a very good thing to do because who would make a leotard better than a dance store? I really recommend doing this if you want one. Lots of people don't understand the point of leotards but they are perfect for tucking into skirts or shorts because you don't have to worry about your top un-tucking or messing up. I didn't actually wear my Buffalo Exchange hat out, but I was loving the kind of saucy school girl vibe and wanted to show you it.

Hat - Buffalo Exchange
Leotard - Dance website
Skirt - Urban Outfitters
Boots - Gap
Belt - Vintage

Lexi's travels - Covent garden, London

SO I live in London as you probably know but I still think this counts as a travel adventure because day trips - hello? Anyway so some wonderful friends and I went to Covent garden and it is one of my favourite places. It is full of inspiration and cool stuff. Also you can do lots of really cool things there for little money  - yay! Here is what we did.

I insta-ed this picture (@lexi-law) with these animazomb toy things. They were really cool.

I wore  my swedish tartan dress with these super jazzy tights I found at the bottom of my draw.
We had lunch at the amazing five guys - really good burgers.
Some of us signed their wall of fame.
We went to see the benefit bus - aka most girliest and fabulous bus ever - which was giving away free samples! Yay for free mascara! All we did was show that we followed them on instagram or facebook and we could choose a free sample of the They're real mascara or the Porefessional.
And here is all the wonderful junk I received (yes I know the picture is upside down but blogger is being a fussy thing atm so please make do for now). All of it was free except for the Japanese teddy sweets (you know my obsession with teddies) and the bandanna which I found at THE COOLEST vintage store called Rokit.  But yes all the rest of it was free, badges, leaflets, stickers, postcards, mascara samples and a free LFW paper. Hazah! Like I said if you want to go somewhere on a budget which is inspiring, full of culture and free things, go to Covent garden. Look past the designer stores and peep round some corners - you are bound to find something cool there.

You can look at Rokit's website HERE.

Little red dress 24.09.13

I've been experimenting with layering a lot lately and I found a really nice way to wear this red topshop dress by layering a black long sleeved top underneath. This dress fits very nicely and flares out right at the hips; it's good for curvy  girls. The Next tartan backpack ties it all together. Tartan is a BIG trend right now which I am very pleased about because I wear a lot of tartan. It works well with leather which takes the sort of school girl vibe out of it.

Dress - Topshop
Black t shirt - Next
Backpack - Next
Jacket - Dorothy perkins
Shoes - Gap

Do you guys like tartan?

DIY magazine flowers

I was in Portobello market the other day and saw these really cool magazine cut out flowers displayed on a shop wall and wanted to make them! So I thought I would teach you how.

You will need:
-Some magazines
-Scrap paper
-Paper fasteners or split pins
-A pencil
-Some scissors
-Blue tack

The first thing you want to do is go through all of your magazines and rip out pages of adverts and things you like the look of. Try to go for different colours which will help the flower effect.

You then want to draw on your scrap paper three different sized flowers. I drew mine very roughly but you could print out a flower stencil  if your prefer.

Place your stencil onto a magazine page with some blue tack to keep it in place.

Cut out three flowers using this method.

You then want to line up your flowers, placing the biggest one on the outside and the smaller ones going inwards. Then get a pencil and make a small hole through the middle of the lined up flowers.

Push through a paper fastener and split it at the back to secure it.

And Voila! I made three and was very pleased with the way they turned out. I am making a frame collage wall and these add to the collection of wall goodies nicely. I think they would also look really good on a white wall or a bedroom door. You don't have to make flowers either, you could make circular ones or any other shape that you like.

Make sure to send me a picture if you make them!

Summer skirts in autumn 21.09.13

Hello all! Lately I have been living in my leather jacket and my chelsea boots. They add the perfect finish to any autumn outfit. I also found a way to wear some of my summer skirts in the winter by adding thick tights like these cable knit ones and adding an underskirt to keep me extra warm. In an old post of mine (this one to be precise) I talked about these chiffon skirt dupes for the american apparel ones from Missguided. Since that post I have grown majorly and now the skirts are so short. I can no longer wear them on their own, but they make the perfect underskirts.

Jacket - Dorothy Perkins
Velvet crop top - Brandy Melville
Yellow skirt - American Apparel
Underskirt - Missguided
Tights - not sure
Boots - Gap

www.lexilikes.com

Lexingtons, I have an announcement. Recently, I have realised that blogging is what I really love to do. I take it seriously too, which means it was time for a change of URL. To read my blog, now go to www.lexilikes.com . And don't worry if you enter the old address, you will automatically be redirected to the current one. This is much easier to remember and it won't affect any sites you follow me with because like I said you will go straight to the current address even if you type in the old one. Nothing has changed either, my blog and content is exactly the same, just the URL different.

Thank you and much love

Lexi's travels - Leucate, France

For the last two weeks of Summer, I was in Leucate which is a small village in the South of France. I spent lots of time with my wonderful friend Edie who lives in France. It was a family holiday spent mostly on the beach so this post is going to be a collection of the odd photos from my trip.

We stayed in a very small rustic villa but it was very pretty.

We went to some beautiful restaurants like this Spanish one.

I held the moon in my hands..

On one really windy day when we couldn't face being sand blasted on the beach, we drove to another nearby village called Perpignon. It was full of cute little streets and graffiti.

I had the most amazing ice cream too. In France they have a very popular coffee ice cream with sugary coffee beans in it. It's delicious!

With no wifi, Edie and I had to find other ways to entertain ourselves. We found a set of jenga blocks and we came up with some pretty cool things like a sky line, a palace outline, a man, some buildings and dominoes too.

I ate some wonderful seafood like these razor clams.

I

In a little village tapestry store I found this little doll dress with shorts and thought it was the cutest thing! I had to buy it.

Now Lexingtons, it has come to the time where you should meet Ted the bear. As you know, I love to travel and ever since I was little I have taken Ted with me as my travelling partner and I take photos of her in all the different places we go! I never thought to share them on my blog but I  thought Ted could have her own occasional segment in travel posts; she is quite a character. So here is the very first Ted travels!

What do you think? I had a great time in Leucate and got some lovely photos. Ted had a good time too.

Much love
