So darken your clothes or strike a violent pose

Title from Teenagers by My Chemical Romance

Today I went shopping - yet again - and wore this tartan dress I bought in Sweden with my brother's old school jumper. It was really Sunny too, so I could wear my Swirly glasses which I talked about in this post. I always feel so sophisticated when I wear big sunglasses with little heeled boots. I bought some lovely clothes for some events coming up and a couple of other things too. My favourite item was a grey dress with a midi tulle skirt from topshop. I will definitely feature it in a post soon. In the meantime, I'm getting excited for Christmas far too early and watching all of the Shaytards' Christmas specials and trying to track down my own family's old videos. I just feel like November is going to pass so quickly and the months leading up to Christmas are always good fun. I probably enjoy them more than Christmas itself.

Today's not a good day for parachuting, but I'm still going to wear a jumpsuit

Hello all! This was the outfit I wore today. Apologies for gloomy lighting but apparently there's a storm coming with strong winds and I left my outfit photos till the end of the day. It's half term - thank god - so I have a week off school to do lots of blogging and fun, creative things for you. It also means I can stock up on outfit photos. I went shopping today at TK maxx. It's not the 'coolest' store but I really don't care because you can find some cheap bargains there. I bought a set of paint brushes because all of mine dissolved in acid after a bleaching project went wrong, and a kimono which I will feature in another post soon. I wore this jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters which I bought in the Summer. I made it a bit more Autumn appropriate with a leather jacket and my black flats. I felt so coordinated with my thrifted bracelet because it matched all the different tones of grey in my outfit. I added my blue Longchamp bag to add a pop of colour.

Jumpsuit - Urban Outfitters

Autumn pastels

When you think of Autumn and Winter fashion your mind immediately thinks of dark colours: reds, browns and blacks. As for 2013, you can say goodbye to wearing a uniform of cranberry and beige and say hello to the pinks and pastels. Don't get me wrong, I love darker colours for this time of year but how about changing it up and incorporating some Clueless '90s vibes with men's tailoring and pastel colours. Here are some of my favourite looks from designers who included this trend in recent collections. None of these photos are my own and the sources are listed.

Celine A/W 2013-14 (source)

Celine's beautiful collection was all about clean tailoring. I love this pink jacket with the grey accents. The jacket has a men's cut but it has such a nice elegant sweep to it.

Topshop have also jumped onto the dusky pink bandwagon but their approach was much more girly and they played with another big trend: texture. For their runway show, the models were given bright blue contrasting eye shadow which I have mixed emotions about. My favourite thing about these outfits are the shoes which are so gorgeous and I need them in my life.

Rodarte A/W 2013 (source)

This was my favourite look from Rodarte's collection. The jacket has the same man-like tailoring as the Celine look, but it is paired with a more feminine dress. The high-low hemline was unexpected as I thought that trend was out but clearly it's here to stay. I love the gaudy hair of the model, as most designers chose fairly plain and simple hair; the bright dye is the perfect thing to complete the classic-meets-grunge vibe of the Rodarte show.

Bouchra Jarrar A/W 2013-14 Couture (source)

You can forget the darker tweeds too as shown in Jarrar's couture collection. It had this gorgeous light silver, tweed jacket. It's like something Cher would wear in Clueless but slightly more subtle. I quite like the silky trousers, although I would be careful as they could look like pajamas.

Alexis Mabille A/W 2013-14 Couture (source)

I would name Alexis Mabille the underdog of the couture scene. Whilst most have drifted to men's tailoring, Mabille has not forgotton how beautiful a feminine cut can be. This look has beautiful crochet and textured details. I especially loved the petal-like accessories in the hair of the models.

Those were all of my autumn pastel looks. Which one is your favourite?

Chasing visions of our futures

Title from one of my current favourite songs: Youth by Daughter.

On Saturday I went to Cambridge for the afternoon to see my brother. I absolutely love Cambridge; it's so chilled and pretty. Seeing all the students always makes me feel more motivated and want to work harder, partly to get into a good Uni and partly for the chance to decorate a dorm room. I wore these BRIGHT mustard tights from Forever 21 and I love them. I definitely got some weird looks but sometimes it's fun to wear something a bit more controversial. I also wore my car boot sale dress which I showed in a previous post. It was so comfy; I felt like I was wearing pajamas. To top it all off I wore this pink, crown-like headband which I last wore when I was about 6. I always wore it backwards as a kid because it looked like a crown and I thought I was a princess. The tradition was continued.

Headband - No clue
Dress - Car boot sale (originally Mango)
Tights - Forever 21
Boots - Gap

September favourites

Hello all! September is over which means it's time for my belated favourites post. If you aren't familiar with these, I talk about trends I've been loving this past month, things I've bought, read, listened to, watched or worn. Apologies for the bad light in the picture but once again I am doing this late at night.

1. First is tartan. I bought this tartan skirt from Urban Outfitters this month and I have been going a bit tartan crazy. Whether it's a dress, skirt or bag, I've probably worn it and blogged about it.

2. Scrunchies. Oh yes, they're back my friends. I have this jam packed draw full of hair accessories from the ages of 3-now and it is too cluttered for me to even think about. However, I had a rumage the other day and found several scrunchies, bows and headbands which I can't wait to wear again. It's also scrunchie-mania at school. Here are some treasures I found in my draw.

3. Photos! My Diana Mini photos actually. I mentioned in my last post that I was going to get them developed and they turned out really well. Some better than others but I am very pleased. The picture doesn't really show the prints but if you want, I could scan them and show them in another post.

4. Lurhmann's Romeo and Juliet. Ohmygod this movie is so wonderful. We are studying the play at school and before you moan about Shakespeare, let me finish. I have studied this play before and I didn't think much of it. But now I have the coolest teacher ever and I have totally fallen in love with the play. We are analysing the language so it makes sense, looking at different movie versions and comparing directing styles, and acting bits out too. After watching clips of this movie in classes before and now I decided it was time for me to buy my own copy. I love everything about this movie (especially Leo DiCaprio) and you must watch it. We also studied Mercutio's Queen Mab speech. For those of you not familiar with it, here is a brief summary. Mercutio goes on a small tangent about this wicked fairy Queen Mab who creates people's dreams. She rides around on a carriage made out of insect wings, a hollowed nut and spiders legs. It's kind of fantasy, creepy galore. One of my assignments was to make a collage about it and I love the way it turned out.

For those of you asking where my book of the month is, I did read a book. I just couldn't find it to include it into the picture. I read Looking for Alaska by John Green. I think it's my new favourite book and I preferred it to the Fault in Our stars. It's less about a complicated plot, more about a boy's thoughts and one significant thing that happens to him. John green just understands people.

What have you all been up to?

Wilma Tenderfoot 06.10.13

Hello all. How are you? We haven't spoken since Monday which is odd indeed but here I am with a post for you. This outfit was inspired/reminds me of my favourite childhood book character, Wilma Tenderfoot. She always wore a pinafore and long socks and she had a mighty fine dog called Pickle. Unfortunately I have a cat but at least I nailed the outfit.  You can see my cat hiding in a bush actually. Today I took my Diana mini camera out for a run because I haven't used it for a while. I'm not really sure whats happening with it though and I think the film might be stuck and I have ruined all my pictures. Meh, will have to get it developed and see soon. It was also really hot for Autumn in London, meaning I didn't freeze with socks on instead of tights and I didn't have to wear a jacket. Hazah!

Mid ring - Miss selfridge
Other ring - not sure
Diana mini - Gift

Shirt - not sure but I just made myself really dizzy trying to read the label (I'm still wearing it)
Pinafore dress - Topshop
Socks - Next
Boots - Gap
Bandanna - Rokit

I also went to a car boot sale which was so cool. I don't know why I have never been to the one which is always on near me but now I will go whenever I can. It was like charity shop/vintage galore. Everything was so cheap and besides the hellish crowds, I had a wonderful time.  Here is what I bought.

Daisy printed playsuit (£2), Mango over sized jumper which I'm going to wear as a dress (£2.50), Vintage Spiderman comic because I'm a total nerd (£1.50).

That's basically been my day as well as overloads of homework and cups of tea and coffee. What about you?
