Somersault vlog & performance footage

I am currently writing from sunny and beautiful Mallorca right next to a pool and some mountains with snoring family members all around. It ain't half bad. Today I want to share the second part of my Somersault festival content. I made a cute montage/vlog of our day and also have some footage of all the performances we saw. Watch below or click HERE.

I have been a fan of Misty Miller's music for a few years now, so seeing her perform live was amazing. I also loved seeing Shannon Saunders as I recently started listening to her and then she started popping up everywhere, including Jacksgap. I ended up talking to her after her set and she was so lovely. My final favourite was We Were Evergreen. I hadn't listened to them that much before but they were so enjoyable to watch perform. You would think, listening to them on recording, that most of it is produced but they actually use all of the instruments you hear and do the coolest tricks with sound machines.

It was such an amazing day and I definitely want to go next year. Have any of you been to festivals recently?

Somersault festival

Last Sunday I headed down to Devon with my great friend Edie for Somersault festival. We walked down towards the festival through rows of tents and yurts, surrounded by hippies and fellow festival-goers. It was such an amazing atmosphere, so relaxed and yet bursting with energy. There was so much going on and I can't all include it in one post, so today's is outfits and activities, and my next post will be a vlog and about all the performances I saw.

Playsuit - Asos
Kimono - TK maxx
Shoes - Converse (bought in NYC)
Flower Crown - Forever 21
Sunglasses - Primark
Ring - Portobello market

This is what I wore. I'm so obsessed with my new black Asos playsuit and it is perfect for festivals. You can dance and move around and stay comfortable too. I've had this Kimono since last Autumn but it has been far too cold to wear it - until now. It's definitely become one of my Summer essentials, also perfect for festivals because you can stay cool on hot days and avoid sunburn on your shoulders!

Whilst in the hippy spirit, we both decided to get feathers in our hair! The stall was The Feather Tree! The same brand I wrote about in my Pure london blog (I'm actually listed on their site as part of the Press coverage of the brand). It was so good to see the brand was doing well and I LOVE my new feather extension.

Above is Edie's feather extension and below is her super cute outfit. Her boho shorts are perfect <3

We started the day by heading over to the 'Well being' section, filled with massage tents, palm reading and yoga groups. There was an adorable caravan which held pom pom and decorative twig making, run by the lovely girls, Hattie & Flora

There was also this beautiful stream running through the area. People were swimming in it and dipping their feet, it was lovely.

At night, there were lights everywhere, giving this very soft nostalgic glow as we left. It was such a wonderful day. The best part was obviously the music, so stay tuned for my next post to hear all about that!

Mr Burns at the Almeida theatre

Another highlight of my school Theatreland week was seeing the play Mr Burns at the Almeida theatre. Here is an excerpt taken from the Almeida theatre website about the play:

It’s the end of everything in contemporary America. A future without power. But what will survive?
Mr Burns asks how the stories we tell make us the people we are, explodes the boundaries between pop and high culture and, when society has crumbled, imagines the future for America’s most famous family.

There are three separate acts, all in different time periods after some sort of apocalypse in America that causes the loss of power. It uses the Simpsons as a common theme to refer back to throughout the play (hence the title). At times they become the characters and at others they tell tales of the cult figures. The way they used the theme was very clever, and since they are such iconic characters everyone has at least come to terms with them in some form. I can't write much without spoiling it and it's better to know less going in. Although if you aren't a regular Simpsons fan, familiarize yourself with the classic 'Cape Feare' episode in order to understand a lot of the references.  It is incredibly unique. It's so hard to be original but I can honestly say I have never seen anything similar. It's also clever. Even if you aren't a fan of the plot or structure, you can still appreciate the concept and details of the performance. The costumes and set were fantastic too. At the end, it will make you think. Not only about a future post-electric socitey, but also about how stories evolve overtime and how this effects them.

What's the best play you've recently watched?

DYE HIPSTERS DYE

I officially have unicorn hair and a revamped wardrobe. Dye is glorious for both hair and clothes. Let's start with the clothes. My friend Emily and I tie dyed a bunch of old white t-shirts and primark dresses. Tie dye is a Summer classic and so much fun. I can't wait to show you the other clothes soon! As for hair, mine has pastel streaks running through the ends and I feel like a My little Pony toy and Emily now has pink dip dye! I'd never dyed my hair before this, so I was slightly concerned but it was a spontaneous move as I'd only decided the night before.

We used the Bleach London dyes in the colours The Big Pink, Sea Punk, Blullini and Washed Up Mermaid. They worked so well and we definitely achieved the desired pastel shades by mixing different colours.

Here's a video from my Youtube about how I (well, Emily) did it. You can watch the embedded clip below or click HERE.

So that's how I dyed my hair in this rainbow/pastel/unicorn/my little pony way. What do you think? I am so in love with it and it's perfect for Summer. It fades out in 2-10 washes so it's great if you want to experiment. I'm going to a festival this Sunday and it will work perfectly.

Have you ever dyed your hair? What colour?

Mooi En Lief lifestyle magazine

Today I have something really exciting to show you all. I am in the Mooi En Lief lifestyle magazine! They are a dutch brand who sell the cutest wellington boots I have ever seen. Their motto: 'At Mooi En Lief we dare to be different' is definitely reflected in their quirky and innovative designs.  I think they stand for something great as kids grow up trying to figure out who they are, and daring to be different is a huge part of that. So they have released a small lifestyle magazine featuring interviews, articles and OOTDs with their wellies by fashion bloggers (including yours truly).  Here is a digital copy of my outfit collage, to read the full issue click HERE.

In my outfit collage, I chose to style the Army boots. As you may know, I am a big fan of contrasting girly and edgy styles so they seemed perfect to do that. I love the studs and laces on the boots and think they are a great edgy twist on the typical khaki welly.

Thank you Mooi En Lief for such a cool opportunity! How would you style the Army boots?

John Deakin and the Lure of Soho at The Photographers' Gallery

One of the highlights of my 'Theatreland' school trip was seeing the John Deakin exhibition at The Photographers' Gallery in Soho. I was the one of the few who had a higher interest in photography than acting so I really enjoyed it. Deakin was known for his fashion photography in Vogue, portraits and captures of interesting characters in London's Soho in the 1950s and '60s. Soho is a place bursting with character, so seeing it through his eyes in such a different time period was really intriguing.  Below is my favourite photo, I love the shadows around the woman's face and the softness of it.

Here are a few of my other favourites.

And here's a video taken from The Photographers' Gallery's website, explaining more about Deakin and the exhibition.

Overall, the exhibition was fantastic and I really loved seeing all the colourful characters John Deakin encountered throughout his life.
