Behind the scenes of Virgin Suicides with Anna McGrane

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to join the wonderful Anna McGrane on her latest shoot, inspired by The Virgin Suicides. The young and talented photographer kindly invited me to help with the creative process.  I captured some behind the scenes snaps and also got a few minutes to chat with Anna about her inspiration and future plans in photography.

Here are my behind the scenes photos!

p.s. You may have noticed Lexi Likes has had a makover! As much as I loved my old theme, there were lots of issues with images being cut off and mobile device viewing so it was time for a change. I tried to keep a touch of my old theme in the header but I like this a lot better. My favourite feature being the 'pin it' button that pops up when you hover over an image, so perfect for all you pinterest lovers! Do you like it? Let me know in a comment!

Statement shorts & Mallorca vlog

Hello! Unfortunately this is the last outfit post with Edie in it for this Summer! It was our last shoot in Mallorca but I love how the photos turned out. We shot in a street in the town where everything is so rustic and pretty.

Edie wears:

Top - Benetton
Shorts - Benetton
Shoes - Zara

Lexi wears:

T-shirt - LOFT
Shorts - Asos
Shoes - Next
Bandanna - Rokit

I also want to talk about my new favourite rings. This is my go-to combo now (I'm actually wearing them as I type). The purple stone one I found at Portobello market the other day. It's really mystical and totally reminds me of the ring in Howl's Moving Castle which keeps you safe. Ah the magical witchy vibes. The other I found in H&M in a set for £1 - bargain!

Finally, here is a vlog/montage of our trip to Mallorca. I spent ages editing it so I hope you like it! And make sure to subscribe to my youtube HERE to see my videos first!

POWDER BLUE

POWDER BLUE

It's been quite a while since I shared a polyvore collage with you all so I thought it was a great oppertunity to start talking AW14 clothes. Last year, I wrote this post, talking about how pastel pink was making a comeback for the cooler months. Well this year, I'm feeling powder blue is the desired pastel shade, and boy is it pretty. I just happened to pick up a 40s evening dress whilst out thrifting today in this beautiful colour and you should be seeing it in a haul video soon. But being blonde, powder blue has always been one of my favourite shades to wear so I can't wait to rock it this season. As you can see, it comes in many forms, so whatever you like to wear, you can rock it in the blue. My favourite is the biker jacket, it is so ridiculously beautiful (I NEED IT).

I'm still in the process of getting all my content out from over the summer and I have been travelling all over the place. I'm actually in Martha's Vineyard right now but I should be back on Sunday! Ugh Summer is slipping away faster than a non-existent wave at a European beach and I'm not ready to let go. On a separate note, I'm Bundlemag's blogger of the week and they've had a mini relaunch, so if you haven't already, go sign up! It's a social network site just for bloggers and you can check it out HERE.

What have you all been up to?

fancy pants

Title to be read in a sarcastic American accent (or not it's up to you really).

These outfit pictures were taken in an adorable old town in Mallorca called Pollenca. It was unbearably hot, hence the lack of jewellery and layering but I think this outfit is actually pretty cool.

Top - Forever 21
Trousers - Urban renewal range at UO (restyled vintage)
Sandals - Next
Flower crown - Boutique in Pollenca
Sunglasses - Primark

Firstly, I am so in love with my new Next flip flops/sandals. The holographic band across the front is so cool. The flower crown I found in a sweet Boutique in the town which also sold the most beautiful jewellery. I'm so happy about my sunglasses. I bought them to replace a pair I had last year which broke. I don't really buy much from Primark because (a) I like things to not break within the first week of buying them and (b) I don't agree with the way their clothes are produced. But I had to make an exception for these wonderful hippy shades as they are my all time favourite shape. Here are some other photos from around the town!

This was taken at the top of this giant staircase. And yes, I did climb every single one of those steps right from the bottom. I was nearly dead by the end of it.

It was so pretty and since we were there in Fiesta week, there was this beautiful white confetti and bunting hung up all over.

Have you guys been anywhere this Summer?

Henri Matisse The Cut-Outs at Tate Modern

A few days ago, I visited the Henri Matisse exhibition at the Tate. Matisse was a successful painter in the twentieth century, but for the last 17 years of his life he started making compositions out of painted paper. He would cut shapes and play with different elements and perspectives which created this unique style of art. The exhibition was incredible and had a nice selection of his work from different stages of his career. Here are some of my favourite pieces.

The horse, the rider and the clown

The sword swallower

The two above were part of the Jazz book/room, which had all these compositions based on circuses. I think the idea of a circus is quite magical on it's own so these two are very effective with the block colours and silhouettes.

The Creole Dancer

I love this one so much. The expression on the dancer's face is fantastic and Matisse captures the movement so well.

Blue Nude II

One of the most famous series of pieces by Matisse, Blue Nudes, is a great example of how he creates contours and outlines by cutting.

The Parakeet and the Mermaid

This composition was originally pasted across Matisse's studio walls, which I think is a really cool way to create art by using your walls as a giant canvas. You can see the two creatures tucked away between the leaf and fruit shapes.

Christmas Eve

The exhibitions was constructed in such a way that after 13 rooms filled with Matisse's compositions you walked through a corridor and see the final product of his stained glass window. The layout allows you to appreciate it and gives a progressive vision to the art.

It was such a fantastic exhibition and make sure you go and see it soon because it ends in September! You can book tickets HERE.

Space Oddity

I've been meaning to write about the Lazy Oaf Space Oddity collection for weeks but am only just getting round to it. The retro feel is inspired by 60s sci-fi movies and I can't get enough of the bold shapes and colours. I think one of the most unique things you can do when designing a collection is play with texture, which this does beautifully. I'm talking vinyl, neoprene, chiffon and pom-poms - it's great.

The skirt in this look is fabulous. I do love a good full skirt and paired with a slogan tee, it works perfectly.

I love the layering here with shorts and a fitted top underneath a sheer dress. ALSO pom-pom collars? Genius Lazy Oaf. Genius. DIY worthy (possibly coming soon).

Again, sheer dress layering is great and works so well with the colour blocking. Knee socks are an ultimate bonus.

I'm a bit of a magpie when it comes to shiny things and holographic fabrics (see me rant about shiny skirts in my Hyper Japan vlog HERE) so I this dress is incredibly appealing. AND it has a pom pom collar.

Above is a video from Lazy Oaf, which captures the aesthetic of the collection very nicely. You can check out the rest of the collection HERE.

HYPER JAPAN 2014

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a festival called Hyper Japan which is basically a giant celebration of Japanese culture. There was amazing food, kawaii & harajuku fashion, lots of cosplayers, video games and so much manga. It was amazing.

Above is Emily and I signing up to Karaoke (aka our death wish). It was actually surprisingly fun screaming My Chemical Romance across the exhibition hall. And luckily for you, there is footage of this in my vlog at the end of the post.

An actual Japanese person came up to me and said my outfit was 'so kawaii', so I basically win at life.

Me chillin with Luffy from One Piece. The cat I'm holding is from one of my all time favourite animes, Fairy Tail. He is the best character ever. My T-shirt has the Attack on Titan Logo too. ALL THE ANIMES.

Making Origami cranes and winning at a new Naruto video game.

And finally, here is my vlog from the day (watch above or click HERE). I found these amazing shiny skirts (shown in the video) but I couldn't bring myself to spend £25 on one, so I'm thinking of doing a DIY? Let me know if that's something you'd like to see!
