Collections at the Centre Pompidou

Another noteworthy stop on my trip to Paris was the Centre Pompidou. The striking modern architecture means the gallery stands out among the crowd of charming Parisian houses. I spent my short stay gathering references for my new art module entitled Collections. At first I was rather unsure of where to take this, so seeing such a diverse range of examples was really useful.

'Collections' essentially makes me think of old women with houses filled with China or hard core dalmation fans, but I think everyone collects something, whether they mean to or not. As a child I accumulated a stupid amount of teddy bears without the intention of forming a 'collection' as such, but merely due to a liking. At the moment I'm obsessed with documenting my teenage existence, so I'm keeping every ticket, photo or bottle cap so that I'm able to reference this period of my life when I'm older. I think it's really interesting to see what a person has kept/accumulated overtime and the formation of these unintentional collections.

Do you collect anything? And were you aware of it until just now?

  2. I opened this post and I was "Ok, one more modern art museum post" because despite they are all beautiful it is not like they surprise me anymore, but this one really stood out!

I have a collection of coins I inherited from my grandfather, I look at it from time to time and think about all the people that could have touched that coins and their life stories. I don't add anything for some years now. I guess the habit of collecting isn't for me.

    Very interesting post!

    1. Ah thank you I'm so glad you enjoyed it! That's so interesting, especially with something like coins which have touched hundreds of people. Thanks for your lovely comment Luana! x

  3. I had a spell with stickers and later plush animals! I used to be into the idea of collecting but now I'm trying to learn not to hold onto everything like before.
