Edeline Lee AW20 | LFW

The Edeline Lee presentation is always my highlight of fashion week (see past shows in the blog archives HERE). This season was no exception, and definitely my favourite yet. Held at the Apollo Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue, the clothes were shown through a series of vignettes directed by Josie Rourke. Models walked on stage as narrators Theo James and Rebecca Trehearn read out a series of quotes about women. They began as literary references and transitioned into feminist statements, creating a dynamic dialogue about the way we view and understand the idea of a powerful woman. According to the press release, the audience are ‘invited to consider female power, the potency of sensuality and the historical impact of the male gaze’. The collection looked enchanting under the spotlight. Bold, sharp tailoring in the form of jumpsuits and dresses exuded elegance and authority. In keeping with AW20’s climate change focus, Lee’s linings, interlinings and packaging has now been switched to sustainable alternatives. The fabrics are woven in France and Italy and each piece is handmade in England. It was a truly stunning show.

‘I sat down on the edge of a deep soft chair and looked at her. She was worth a stare. She was trouble... I stared at her legs. They seemed to be arranged to stare at. They were visible to the knee and one of them well beyond. The knees were dimpled, not bony and sharp. The calves were beautiful, the ankles long and slim and with enough melodic Kline for a tone poem.’ - Raymond Chandler, The Big Sleep.

‘Men should think twice before making widowhood women’s only path to power.’ - Gloria Steinem.

‘Some women choose to follow men, and some choose to follow their dreams. If you’re wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn’t love you anymore.’ - Lady Gaga.

‘I grew up wishing for protectors, strangers to carry my bags, truck drivers to whistle out windows. I will never be feminine, and feminine in the worst way. Submissive. Dependent. Soft-spoken. Coquettish. I was no good at any of it, no good at being a girl; on the other hand, I’m not half bad at being a woman.’ - Nora Ephron, Collected Works.

EDELINE LEE SS19 | LFW

I'm fortunate to have seen several of Edeline Lee's London Fashion Week presentations and the show has become the one on my calendar I most look forward to. There is always colour, there is always creativity, and this SS19 was no exception. A rolling loop of scenes showcased the clothes in the dynamic atmosphere - it was a hybrid of fashion show and physical theatre piece. The models danced in a circle to swing music, there was a clever (and quite meta) reenactment of a model getting photographed. The all white props and setting meant despite the action, your eyes were glued to the clothes; colourful prints, interesting tailoring and '70s vibes all making an appearance.

Edeline Lee SS18 | London Fashion Week

Despite the chaos of my final school year, I made a point of clearing my schedule to see the Edeline Lee presentation this fashion week. I've seen Lee's shows for the last couple of seasons, and they always seem to stand out. This occasion was no exception.

Inspired by the life and work of Georgia O'Keef, the collection was a perfect example of art influencing fashion. The clothes lived out Lee's running narrative of strong and expressive women, with a heartfelt femininity in each garment. The bold silhouettes were reminiscent of O'Keef's signature voluptuous shapes and the colour palette that of New Mexico, where O'Keef produced some of her finest work. There was delicate stitching, audacious sleeves and turquoise accents - all of which created a wonderful collection.

Edeline Lee SS17

After gushing over Edeline Lee last season, I was very excited to see the designer's latest creations yesterday to start my London Fashion Week.

Each look had an individual feel, but the collection was made cohesive with gingham prints, pleats and pastel stripes.

There was a nice balance of feminine, elegant dresses and more androgynous, quirky pieces, brought together with baseball socks and platform sandals.

I thought the set choice was really interesting with industrial images projected behind such playful clothes.

Edeline Lee AW16

Held at the On|Off showcase at the Vinyl Factory in Soho, the Edeline Lee presentation featured an unusual cold-weather colour scheme of white and lilac, with pops of green and red. The backdrop of shredded paper, bright lights and a checker board floor created a contemporary theatrical set for the London based, but Canadian born designer's elegant collection.

Trench coats and jumpsuits were made more modern in light and fun fabrics.
