HYPER JAPAN 2016

With several pockets of Japanese culture, Hyper Japan is definitely a colourful event on my calendar. I first became interested in manga and anime when my brother introduced me at around age 12. I watched Fairy Tail (and a few others) routinely until I was around 14. Although I'm no longer an avid anime watcher, Japanese culture still fascinates me, so Hyper Japan has become a highlight of my summer. It is a weird and wonderful celebration/market with good food and eccentric people.

A World of Contrasts

While my friends and family in Sydney have endured torrential rain and hail storms for the past week, London has experienced some blissful sunshine. It seems the tables have turned.  A local suburban street has exploded in pink with the annual bloom of the Cherry Blossom trees. They only last for about two weeks, but it's the most beautiful time of year. London isn't famous for its cherry blossoms, as far as I know, they're usually associated with Japan, but the blaze of colour sets this street alight.

Meanwhile in Sydney, torrential rain for the past week and extreme hailstorms in recent hours have lead to floods on the normally sun-coated Harbour bridge.

HYPER JAPAN 2014


A couple of weeks ago, I went to a festival called Hyper Japan which is basically a giant celebration of Japanese culture. There was amazing food, kawaii & harajuku fashion, lots of cosplayers, video games and so much manga. It was amazing.





Above is Emily and I signing up to Karaoke (aka our death wish). It was actually surprisingly fun screaming My Chemical Romance across the exhibition hall. And luckily for you, there is footage of this in my vlog at the end of the post.


An actual Japanese person came up to me and said my outfit was 'so kawaii', so I basically win at life.


Me chillin with Luffy from One Piece. The cat I'm holding is from one of my all time favourite animes, Fairy Tail. He is the best character ever. My T-shirt has the Attack on Titan Logo too. ALL THE ANIMES.

And finally, here is my vlog from the day (watch above or click HERE). I found these amazing shiny skirts (shown in the video) but I couldn't bring myself to spend £25 on one, so I'm thinking of doing a DIY? Let me know if that's something you'd like to see!
