Play Date In Paris

In an attempt to escape the depressing cloud of revision for our mocks in January, Lily and I escaped to Paris last week for a few days of freedom. We had a magical day in Disneyland (that post is on its way) and another day exploring the Louvre and the city in general. These are a few pieces from our play date in Paris.

STOCKHOLM STYLE


I've felt out of sync with the whole blogging world these past few weeks. Year 11 is in full swing, and as my life gets increasingly busy, I needed some time away to recharge my creative batteries. A trip to Sweden later, and I'm back from my short hiatus, with new ideas and stories to share. 


Before visiting my grandmother in a more rural part of Sweden, I had a day and I half to explore Stockholm. The city was enveloped in autumn, with vibrant leaves and chilly winds laced through the streets (the real reason for those stylish Scandi scarves).

Embracing the simple Scandi colour scheme, I opted for this denim dress and my black cloak, which nowadays rarely leaves my shoulders.


The structure and architecture of the city was dynamic and engaging, each island with its own purpose and personality.

TRANSITION


Currently, we're in my favourite period of the year. The transition from Summer to Autumn is magical. The air is crisper, the leaves get darker and I get to walk around in witchy cloaks. What's not to love?

Spa-rkling Summer Shoot


Although I've documented my love for the clean cuts and mod prints of the '60s in the past (see HERE or HERE), this year something new has caught my eye. I am obsessed with the '70s. The orange and earthy tones, flowy silhouettes and killer music have me infatuated with the decade. Here's an inspired outfit from my time in France at the end of the summer, hopefully one of many more to come.

Postcards from Corfu


My dear friend Sky whisked me away to the island of Corfu last week, where we lounged in the sun, went swimming at 3am, threw stones on the beach, watched old episodes of M.I.High, went on a wild goose-chase through a forest to find a non-existent lagoon and ate more than our fair share of ice creams.

New and Improved



Hello and welcome to the new and improved Lexi Likes! I've been wanting to change up my design for a while now but didn't really know where to begin. Then I found a beautiful template on etsy called 'Alexis', so it was clearly meant to be. A few alterations plus my new header image (a disposable taken on my recent trip to Paris) and viola! I think it's much more modern and more fitting with my current style.

Espace Dali in Paris

Located in Montmartre, the artists village in Paris, Espace Dali holds a collection of Salvador Dali's finest work in surrealism. Having never previously explored Dali's work, my experience at this exhibit was truly magical.

Mooi En Lief at Festivaleyes

Festivaleyes is an online marketplace which sells wacky and wonderful festival wear from a number of different designers, inlcuding Mooi En Lief, who I've worked with before on this blog. This weekend, Festivaleyes have a store at Boxpark, the pop up mall in Shoreditch. The lovely Jacquelina from Mooi En Lief invited me down to have a look.

Postcards from Paris

The streets of Paris were inherently beautiful, filled with quaint windowsills, green trees and the charming river Seine. There was this constant bustle unique to the city - sounds of bike wheels turning, cups and saucers clattering, and the compilation of delicate French words which became muffled in the background. Paris was photogenic to say the least.

'90s Suburbia - a digital mood board

Lately I've been channelling a new aesthetic phase which I like to call '90s Suburbia. It's result of my previously documented Dawson's Creek obsession. It's comprised of '90s denim, pale blue and grey tones, a short(er) haircut,  white picket fences and suburban lakes. I've spent the week in Paris which has resulted in some gorgeous pictures of Lola and I, shot by Sky, which I think really capture the summery '90s vibe.

SUMMER READING


As a post exam treat, I took the liberty of doing a therapeutic binge order on Amazon of books. I always read a lot in the Summer. New-found spare time and the constant commutes out and about means it just makes sense to read more. I just finished 1984, which was incredible and I've got a review of the play coming soon. I bought an eclectic mix with everything from classics to YA novels, a book on feminism and even a collectors item from my favourite TV show, Fringe. I will make sure to document my progress over the Summer and let you know my opinions on each!

The Color Run


The cumulative energy of thousands dancing to booming pop music was electric. The second the beat dropped, the sky exploded in colour. Vibrant powder filled the air, creating an enchanting cloud of pink, blue and yellow. This was the gleeful celebration of The Color Run. 


I'm not a sporty person, but when my friend Julia suggested we run around Wembley Stadium whilst floating through clouds of colour, I couldn't resist. 



We entered as a team - named 'Dye Me A River' - and went all out with face paint and glitter. Every kilometre, we were dosed in colourful powder and everyone was cheering and smiling. It had such a happy atmosphere.




By the end of it we were human rainbows. The best part was the Finish Festival. Sarah (left), Lily (right) and I went into the crowd and danced to cheesy pop music in anticipation of one of the famous 'colour throws'. You can see the magical outcome of this in my vlog below.






It was a great experience and The Color Run are partnered with NSPCC, so the money goes to a good cause! If you want to sign up to one near you, check out their website HERE.

House of Fraser Press Day - AW15

Last Thursday, I headed down to Baker Street after school to see House of Fraser's new collections for Autumn/Winter. The people were very friendly and they had some gorgeous pieces.



They had wonderful bags in lots of pastel and neutral tones.


I saw a lot of '70s inspired pieces, including this fabulous suede co-ord and striped wide leg trousers.


This DKNY bag has to be my favourite piece. Donna Karan never fails to create classic items with a modern, edgy twist.



 When it comes to my winter wardrobe, the perfect coat tends to be the hardest to find. I always struggle to find something new and original but the vast range of colours and textures at the press day meant I picked out at least three I would buy.


Menswear isn't something I talk about a lot, but I did have a peek at their new range. It was really diverse, and I couldn't resist this green bomber. The structured leather coat is lovely too.


The clothes were showcased in some flats above their offices which had a splendid view of London.

DIY Bleached slogan jacket

Inspired by old school biker jackets, today's DIY is a bleached slogan shirt. It's perfect for throwing over a pair of shorts and tee, and the bold phrase just adds something interesting to your outfit (a great conversation starter).  


YOU WILL NEED:

-An old shirt or fabric jacket
-Bleach
-An old paintbrush
-Towel


Firstly, lay out your shirt onto a towel, making sure the front panels are spread out (you don't want the bleach to go through to the front). Then with a pencil, roughly outline where you want your phrase or word to go.


Then paint on your word with your old paintbrush and bleach. Emphasis on the old, as the bleach is likely to cause the bristles to disintegrate once you're finished.


To create the wispy strings coming off the letters, simply drag your dipped brush in the air out from the letters and let the strings settle.


Lastly, leave your bleach to develop for an hour or so and then wash it out. The amount of time will vary depending on the colour and material of your shirt,but it's best to check every half hour or so until you reach the desired effect.




Voila! You have your slogan jacket. I opted for 'Odyssey' because it's not too cheesy, but still pretentious enough to wear on a piece of clothing. I also like its associations with a journey or long wandering and Greek poetry.

A Day At The Fair

I spent the bank holiday Monday in a lovely village called Reach just outside of Cambridge. My friend Alice and I explored the local Fair, which was adorable. I decided to sport my new skirt and sunglasses, both found at Bicester village a few weeks ago. I love the off-white colour of the skirt and how the dynamic under layer contrasts with the flowy-ness. I thought the sunnies were so unique due to their blue tint and I'm completely in love with them. And of course I was wearing my signature yellow backpack. It's become one of those pieces that almost feels like an extension of myself because I wear it everyday.







The fair was typically English, complete with the the Mayor of the town throwing new pennies to the children and maypole dancing to mark the beginning of the Summer. It also had a glorious Ferris Wheel, which happens to be one of my favourite things. Although saying that, the ride started to fall to pieces shortly after we got off, which was quite alarming.
