FRINGE FEVER

As I mentioned in this post, I went to Edinburgh Fringe festival for a grand total of 24 hours. It was hectic and lively, with eccentric performers lining the streets and seemingly every building in the city dedicated to a show. There was a plethora of hair colours and artsy outfits, plenty of them double-take worthy. It was a vivid and memorable experience.

I saw two shows.

The first: When You Improv On A Star. An improvised Disney-style musical by the Cambridge Impronauts. I'll admit, the primary reason for me seeing the Impronauts was because my brother Jack was a cast member. Bias aside, each comedy show I've seen by the group has had me crying with laughter (not an easy accomplishment with myself) and this edition did not disappoint. I was brought to a mining community on the moon, with a robot villain of Margaret Thatcher (who was determined to stop strikes). The Impronauts have a humility which puts their audience at ease and off the cuff one-liners you just can't manufacture. It is perhaps the collaborative nature of the show that sets it apart. While Jack's run has finished, the show is still going on, so if you're going to Fringe, it's on at the Gilded Balloon, Billiard room until August 29th. Buy tickets HERE.

The Best Vintage In Edinburgh (And Maybe The World)

I was in Edinburgh for Fringe, to see two shows in 24 hours. With half an hour to spare, I stumbled across Armstrong's Vintage. I was then transported through a portal to another world (at least that's what it felt like).

You enter the store into a small room, with some classic disco dresses on one side, and kilts on the other. Cute, modest, and nothing compared with the rest of the store. The deceiving small doorway at the back leads you down a corridor, and then opens out to two large rooms, both with tall ceilings and packed racks filled with clothes. It was a tardis of fabric and glitter.

It was the best kind of store - so much to look at you don't know where to start. Cluttered and chaotic, ordered by era and item, yet still a lot to take in. It had the feeling that searching hard enough through the emporium would lead you to a piece of treasure, something special. And this premonition definitely didn't disappoint.

Exploring the Scottish National Gallery

One day in Scotland, Alice and I decided to take the train down to Edinburgh where we ate mountains of pasta in this quaint Italian place and sketched in the National gallery. It was a day well spent.

These were all pieces by Steven Campbell. I loved the way that each one was it's own fictional universe and the aesthetic of the magical creatures and faded water colours was so pleasing.

The gallery was pretty cool and here's what I wore for our day of adventuring.

Jumper - topshop
Playsuit - Asos
Tights - (borrowed) topshop
Boots - Charity shop
Jacket (<3) - borrowed

Alice lent me these amazing sparkly blue tights and I borrowed the jacket from her lovely Aunt. I actually became really attached to it by the end of the trip and if any of you know where I could get something similar I would really appreciate it! Autumn means the season of expert layering is upon us, so I went for this really sweet jumper which has a chiffon layer over the top and paired it with my black playsuit.

I'm currently getting really excited for Christmas (I know it's early for lots of people but I LOVE the festive season) and binge watching the Mindy Project and a new favourite anime, Nisekoi. I also can't stop listening to this song:

Hope you are all well!

Scotland

Over half term, I ventured down to Scotland with my lovely friend Alice. It was so beautiful and today I thought I would share my photos and also my vlog from the trip.

This is my favourite nail polish ever. It's a hazel-grace-dark-blue-almost-black-colour (technical name is Maxfactor 'cloudy blue') and it's amazing.

The coolest (and only) tree house I've ever set foot in.

Finally, here's the vlog. More posts about Scotland coming soon.
