interior inspiration

While I've always been interested in style, I never really cared for interiors. My childhood bedroom was more a collection of my things, an evolving museum of my life, rather than a curated space. When I moved into halls for university last year, I avoided the classic pre-uni ikea trip, and brought whatever I had leftover from my room at home. I could never really be bothered to actually design my room.

Only now that I've started renting a flat with two friends for my second year have I started thinking about interior inspiration. I've been screenshotting dreamy spaces on instagram, taking pictures of places across my travels and collecting a fruitful pinterest board of ideas.

Here are some of my favourite finds.

The above pictures are actually of the villa I'm currently staying in in Turkey. The minimalism is striking and the view of the ocean is unbelievable.

A white fluffy carpet and oranges and yellows - ultimate '70s decor.

An amazing Brunch place in Barbados called Bliss. I love the greenery throughout the space along with the warm tones.

Another Day of Sun

After spending the first half of my summer working at an amazing summer job, I'm finally getting some sunshine and a holiday. My days now are largely spent by the sea (which is a happy place of mine), but it's not quite as relaxing as I'd hoped. My final year of school is looming frightfully near, as is the storm of university applications and A-levels. I'm trying to establish a balance of doing things to make the next few months easier and also savouring my last days of peace.

LADY IN RED | what i wore to london fashion week

Dressing for fashion week is always a highlight of the season, but definitely something that's easy to overthink. When you know you're going to be surrounded by people whose very speciality is clothing, the pressure is on - you want to look good. But it's also an opportunity to stand out and show off your individuality and personal style.

In recent months, with starting sixth-form and having the privilege of no uniform, I've been able to play around a lot more with my style. There's a 'business' dress code at my school, but as someone who never wears jeans this isn't a struggle, in fact, it's a pleasure. Honestly, I have a lot of fun dressing up for school, and being able to play with different looks. My style has had room to become more sophisticated, so that's what I channelled for this season's fashion week. It is, after all, largely a business event.

LEXI WEARS:

Coat - NW3 at Hobbs
Trousers - M&S
Top/leotard - Topshop
Necklace - Costume jewellery shop in Stockholm
Boots - Clarks
Bag - Zara

I get major '80s working woman vibes from this more editorial shoot - a happy accident involving some caution tape, my very creative dad and poor light. I also feel a little like Lauren Bacall, which is all I really want in life.

AUTUMN INSPIRATION

Autumn is my favourite season. I've written about it before, but the magic transition from Summer to Autumn, and then Autumn to Winter, always inspires. At the moment I'm obsessed the moody, suburban colour palettes of the '70s and '80s. Warm tones of orange, red and brown, contrasted with dark green and blue. I've been re-watching Stranger Things, and have such an appreciation for the visuals of the show, which perfectly enhance the twisted suburban setting. I'm also really into a recent series made by Vogue, which you can watch HERE, featuring Camille Rowe titled 'What On Earth Is Wellness'. Each episode is fascinating, and explores a different area of the craze that is wellness. Camille Rowe is such a warm and endearing person to watch too. Along with the great content, once again the visuals are stunning, and tie in perfectly with the aesthetic I'm into at the moment. Here's my digital mood board for Autumn 2016. All photos are from my tumblr, or screenshots from the shows.

It's my favourite time of year.

'70s in Spain

I've just returned from a week in Mallorca, with my dear friend Lily (who took these stunning pictures) and her lovely family. Despite a few technical difficulties along the way (James - I'm glad the surgery went well, best of luck with your recovery), I had a wonderful time. I remember the value of the simple things that come with a Summer holiday - the sun, the sea and good company. All of which greatly improve my overall mood and outlook on life.

Here I'm wearing two of my favourite pieces at the moment. Both have some strong '70s vibes which I love.

'70s in Sigtuna

On my last day in Sweden, we visited the town Sigtuna. Founded in 980 and with a population of just over 8000,  it's a sweet window into old Sweden. The pastel houses with lanterns and low ceilings look like they are straight out of a Wes Anderson film set. Each detail seemed like something from a storybook, and as I walked around, I couldn't quite comprehend that this town was real. From toy-like bicycles to hand painted shop signs to an antique phone box, I felt like I was living my dream '70s suburban teen movie.

After walking through the whimsical and quaint main street, we went down to the Lake. It was breathtaking. It was bright and inviting, with a large open deck looking out on to the rolling water. I couldn't resist taking some Dawson's Creek-esque pictures of me looking moody by the water, to once again make my suburban teen movie dreams come true.

STOCKHOLM STYLE

I've felt out of sync with the whole blogging world these past few weeks. Year 11 is in full swing, and as my life gets increasingly busy, I needed some time away to recharge my creative batteries. A trip to Sweden later, and I'm back from my short hiatus, with new ideas and stories to share.

Before visiting my grandmother in a more rural part of Sweden, I had a day and I half to explore Stockholm. The city was enveloped in autumn, with vibrant leaves and chilly winds laced through the streets (the real reason for those stylish Scandi scarves).

Embracing the simple Scandi colour scheme, I opted for this denim dress and my black cloak, which nowadays rarely leaves my shoulders.

The structure and architecture of the city was dynamic and engaging, each island with its own purpose and personality.

Spa-rkling Summer Shoot

Although I've documented my love for the clean cuts and mod prints of the '60s in the past (see HERE or HERE), this year something new has caught my eye. I am obsessed with the '70s. The orange and earthy tones, flowy silhouettes and killer music have me infatuated with the decade. Here's an inspired outfit from my time in France at the end of the summer, hopefully one of many more to come.

THE DECADE DIARIES: '70s edition

My obsession with vintage fashion and old things is probably common knowledge to most of you by now. I'm fascinated by the past and how each decade is associated with a signature trend or movement. I love old music, movies and books and how they all influenced fashion in some way. So, I've launched a new series on my youtube channel called The Decade Diaries, which I'm going to use as a way to channel vintage trends, era by era, and share them with you! The first one is '70s themed, which you can check out HERE or watch below.

WHAT I WORE:
Jacket - Rokit
Leotard - Dance store
Trousers - Urban renewal at UO
Boots - Clarks
Sunnies - Primark
Belt - Vintage

I greet you at the end of what has been a very busy week. I've had play rehearsals, surprise chemistry tests, art projects, 'booty fit' classes, outings with friends and some very cool blog opportunities. I threw together this quirky combo this morning in a hurry but I'm very pleased with the outcome. The leotard is actually from a dance store, and the last time I wore it was at my 13th birthday disco - no shame there. It's perfect for layering under baggy trousers or skirts because it gives you a beautiful silhouette and stays tucked in. Speaking of layering, I was beyond excited to write a piece for Rokit's blog this week on my layering tips. Give the article a read HERE.

I leave you with the sweet sounds of Frank Sinatra.

Dancing Queens and Silver Linings

In just a few days I will be jetting off to festive filled Sweden, so I thought today I would share some Swedish inspo, starting with a classic, Abba. Behind your cliche insults about their ridiculous outfits, let's be honest, you're jealous of those satin blue suits and thigh high white space boots. The fashion icons were HUGE and I guarantee you know the words to most of their songs (I grew up listening to Dancing Queen on Sunday Mornings).

Another, more recent, Swedish music favourite are the indie folk duo First Aid Kit. Their harmonies are so beautiful and kind of make me want to cry. I've booked tickets to see them play in January with a friend and I'm SO excited. They also wear the most excellent hippy attire.

Apologies for the slightly sparse content over the last week, but I am finishing up school and also have caught a bad case of the flu, so my time has been spent watching Twin Peaks and marathon watching the Shaytards Christmas specials. I fly to Sweden on Friday and will have very limited wifi until I return early the following week. But once I'm back, there's going to be back-to-back festive Swedish posts in the run up to Christmas. Stay tuned kids, it's gonna be good.
