New York inspired playlist

New York city is my favourite place in the world. There's a certain drive in New York. Everyone has an ambition, and choose this jungle of brick and glass as their ground on which to build their dream. It sounds incredibly cliché I know, but the fact that it is so cliché proves that it's true. The magical kingdom of concrete is made for a certain type of person and I believe I am one of them. One day I will live there, preferably in Soho but I'm not fussy (I mean its New York, dump me on the street and I'll be happy).

From my previous trips I have distinct memories and associations that take me back to the city. Among these are watching Hannah Montanna for the first time (as a Disney-deprived nine year old this was beyond exciting), discovering the genius invention that is iced coffee, Frank Sinatra's beautiful voice, clean white hotel beds, Carrie Bradshaw, Breakfast at Tiffany's and the classic Manhattan cityscapes. Unfortunately, until the city gets cheaper I am unable to run away from my responsibilities at home (that's how it works right?). So I decided to create a New York inspired playlist. The eclectic mix was created for the future, when I'm all grown up and packing my bags, dreaming of the city that never sleeps.

Any further song suggestions would be much appreciated.

Transition Playlist

(via my instagram)

We're in transition from 2014 to 2015, from Winter to Spring (hopefully, although it's pretty bitter today) and from holiday feasting to New Years resolutions. In honour of this period, I've put together a Transition playlist. It's an eclectic mix to reflect the changing of times.

It's part beautiful acoustic songs that will make you cry, part girl power motivational songs, part Gaurdians of the Galaxy soundtrack (because I love me some '70s pop music) and part random songs I'm feeling at the moment. I'm adding to it daily, so do let me know any suggestions of songs you've been loving at the moment in the comments!

Dancing Queens and Silver Linings

In just a few days I will be jetting off to festive filled Sweden, so I thought today I would share some Swedish inspo, starting with a classic, Abba. Behind your cliche insults about their ridiculous outfits, let's be honest, you're jealous of those satin blue suits and thigh high white space boots. The fashion icons were HUGE and I guarantee you know the words to most of their songs (I grew up listening to Dancing Queen on Sunday Mornings).

Another, more recent, Swedish music favourite are the indie folk duo First Aid Kit. Their harmonies are so beautiful and kind of make me want to cry. I've booked tickets to see them play in January with a friend and I'm SO excited. They also wear the most excellent hippy attire.

Apologies for the slightly sparse content over the last week, but I am finishing up school and also have caught a bad case of the flu, so my time has been spent watching Twin Peaks and marathon watching the Shaytards Christmas specials. I fly to Sweden on Friday and will have very limited wifi until I return early the following week. But once I'm back, there's going to be back-to-back festive Swedish posts in the run up to Christmas. Stay tuned kids, it's gonna be good.

Somersault vlog & performance footage

I am currently writing from sunny and beautiful Mallorca right next to a pool and some mountains with snoring family members all around. It ain't half bad. Today I want to share the second part of my Somersault festival content. I made a cute montage/vlog of our day and also have some footage of all the performances we saw. Watch below or click HERE.

I have been a fan of Misty Miller's music for a few years now, so seeing her perform live was amazing. I also loved seeing Shannon Saunders as I recently started listening to her and then she started popping up everywhere, including Jacksgap. I ended up talking to her after her set and she was so lovely. My final favourite was We Were Evergreen. I hadn't listened to them that much before but they were so enjoyable to watch perform. You would think, listening to them on recording, that most of it is produced but they actually use all of the instruments you hear and do the coolest tricks with sound machines.

It was such an amazing day and I definitely want to go next year. Have any of you been to festivals recently?

Life in Film at the Borderline

On Thursday night I went to see Life in Film at the Borderline in central London. It was actually in Soho and I walked through the Soho hotel where I went to the Good results PR press day a little while ago. Whenever I'm there now I feel like a young Carrie Bradshaw, finding her way in the city and going to cool concerts and events, and then I go to school the next day and it kind of kills the buzz ^_^. But Life in Film are a really good band and we went to see them for Alice's birthday. The Borderline was a really cool venue and we were right at the front. We missed most of the opening band, The Book Club, but what I saw was pretty good. I really want to start going to more concerts and gigs because the energy of any live music is so great. Life in Film are pretty small at the moment but they sound really amazing live. I managed to pinch the set list at the end. It is ripped and was soaked in beer but it captures the atmosphere perfectly.

Here are a few of my favourite songs they played.

Have you been to any concerts recently?

Current obsession: Paramore & Hayley Williams

I've always been a massive fan of rock music, and Paramore's Misery Business was one of my favourite songs from a very young age. There is something so empowering about Hayley Williams' voice and I never get tired of hearing it. She also has such cool style which I'll talk about a little later on. Paramore music is so upbeat but there is something quite electric about the way it makes you feel (if that makes any sense at all) and I absolutely love watching their music videos. The one below is my favourite and it's for the song Still Into You. It basically looks like a giant party filled with ballerinas, bikes, sparklers and a sea of balloons - all in this fancy house with pastel walls that match Hayley's jacket perfectly (so aesthetically pleasing). I love the way Hayley dances too as it looks natural and fun, not choreographed. They described it in this interview as trying to capture that magical feeling when you're still in love with someone visually. The song has such great energy and I think the music video captures it perfectly.

Here are some pictures and gifs from the video because I am obsessed with Hayley's outfit. The tights and jacket are so rad.

My other favourites by them at the moment are Part II and Ain't it Fun (which also has a great music video but I think that's enough for today). Are you a Paramore fan?

These boots are made for walking

I've been thrifting/charity shop shopping so much recently and have found some amazing things, including these wonderful combat boots. They are so good that an old man actually serenaded me on the bus today with 'these boots are made for walking' - it was brilliant (and slightly awkward). I've been looking for a dr martin style boot for a long time, but I wanted something slightly more elegant and feminine because although they look great on some, dr martens aren't for me. That's why I was so thrilled when I found these bad boys in a local charity shop BRAND NEW. They were at the pretty decent price of £13. Anyway I have so many other amazing finds which I can't wait to share with you in the future. Now, enjoy the sweet sound of Nancy Sinatra.

Can you bear it?

Do you see what I did there with the title (bear tights 'bear it'? No? ok never mind ^_^). These photos were taken a week or so ago when Pascale and I went to the Club to Catwalk exhibition at the V&A, tried to go to the cinema twice but failed, and ended up very sarcastically going on what is most likely the world's smallest ice rink. It was also not real ice and probably what you would find in my kitchen, but with a bit of water on it. It was still so much fun, and we could not stop laughing as we attempted to skate whilst drinking hot chocolate. The exhibition was really cool, but I wasn't allowed to take pictures (I took some sneaky ones shhh but I won't post them in case a museum person stumbles across my blog). I really like these photos because they have a sort of blue/purple haze to them which is really pretty.

I wore my new AMAZING bear tights which I love dearly. My jacket was actually my brothers when he was younger but I have inherited it and I have been wearing it so much lately. It's nicely oversized and it's brown leather material with a cosy lining. The cardigan underneath was simply to keep me warm (because now that Christmas is over I keep forgetting that it's still winter). I opted for a pink gingham button up shirt with a black skirt to really go with the kawaii/anime character/kaichou wa maid-sama theme.

I've been listening to HAIM's days are gone album lately and I LOVE it! The wonderful Mattie introduced me to them and I now have the biggest girl crushes. Some of my favourite songs from the album include 'The wire', 'Don't save me' and 'Go slow'.
much love
